Interest nasofibroscopy in the management of ENT pathologies
Nasofibroscopy is a non-invasive endoscopic examination technique for the upper aerodigestive tract. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of nasofibroscopy in the management of ENT pathologies. This was a cross-sectional descriptive study with retrospective and prospective data collection from November 1, 2022, to August 31, 2024 (22 months). It included all patients for whom nasofibroscopy was indicated and performed at the University ENT-CCF Clinic of the CNHU-HKM. The frequency of nasofibroscopy was 3.05% (269/8802). The mean age of the patients was 42.39 years ± 20.95, with a range from 1 year to 87 years. A female predominance was noted, with a male-to-female ratio of 0.86. Rhinological and laryngeal symptoms were the most frequent reasons for consultation. Nasofibroscopy was indicated for diagnosis, pre-therapeutic, and monitoring purposes during ongoing treatment. The etiological diagnosis of isolated dysphonia was the primary indication. Nasofibroscopy results were abnormal in 72.49% of cases. Treatment of diagnosed pathologies was either medical or surgical. In some cases, patient management requires referral to other specialties. The progression of pathologies under treatment was assessed by nasofibroscopy . Nasofibroscopy is valuable for diagnosis, therapeutic decision-making, and monitoring in the management of patients with ENT disorders. Mobilizing resources to promote its use in healthcare facilities would improve the management of patients with these conditions.
